Recession Ready America | August 6, 2009
In the wake of rising unemployment a new Gestapo-like safe neighborhood program has started showing up across the country. Turn in your neighbor for MONEY. For my sake I’ve removed the information of which city I am from, but this is a NATIONAL program. Are these the so called job’s we were promised last year?
According to the programs website: http://wetip.com Informers can earn up to $1000 dollars for each confirmed conviction. The service boasts complete anonymity however I’m not sure how you collect the check if they don’t know who you are.
The Core Values That Have Formed WeTip’s Foundation Include:
• Neutral Third Party Organization created by Citizens for Citizens
• Total Anonymity of the informant with no exceptions
• Live operators staffing the phone, never an answering machine or answering service
• Continuous service around the clock, 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year
• Non-Jurisdictional hotline service, regardless of city, county or state lines
• Sending multiple crime tips to all concerned local, state, federal and allied international law enforcement agencies
“We, the management and Board of Directors of WeTip Inc., here set forth our belief as to the purpose for which this 501 (C)(3), Non-profit Corporation is established and the principles under which it should operate.” Because they are a private business they are not bound by the restrictions of constitutional law that our law enforcement agents are.
In order to gain perspective we need to look back only to the year 1936:
The merger of the SS and Gestapo effectively removed it from the oversight of Frick, who as interior minister would have normally been Himmler’s superior. However, Himmler and the SS, as mentioned above, were responsible only to Hitler. The Gestapo had the authority to investigate treason, espionage and sabotage cases, and cases of criminal attacks on the Nazi Party and Germany. The basic Gestapo law passed by the government in 1936 gave the Gestapo carte blanche to operate without judicial oversight. The Gestapo was specifically exempted from responsibility to administrative courts, where citizens normally could sue the state to conform to laws.
Contrary to popular belief, the Gestapo was not an omnipotent agency that had agents in every nook and cranny of German society. V-men”, as undercover Gestapo agents were known, were used to infiltrate Social Democratic and Communist opposition groups. However 80% of all Gestapo investigations were started in response to information provided by denunciations by “ordinary” Germans.
Robert Gellately of Florida State University had written about the Gestapo in his book, The Gestapo and German Society: Enforcing Racial Policy.
“There were relatively few secret police, and most were just processing the information coming in. I had found a shocking fact. It wasn’t the secret police who were doing this wide-scale surveillance and hiding on every street corner. It was the ordinary German people who were informing on their neighbors.”
The problem with an anonymous informant program that offers payment for incentive in a era of widespread unemployment and inflation is very obvious. In Nazi Germany most of the denunciations were acquired through fear, which is an equally illogical way of getting information from the public.
As he was uncovering who was acting as the Gestapo’s unsolicited agents, he also began to discern what motivated neighbor to inform on neighbor. The surviving myth told the story of informers who were motivated either by a commitment to the Third Reich or by a fear of authority.
But the motives Gellately found were banal—greed, jealousy, and petty differences. He found cases of partners in business turning in associates to gain full ownership; jealous boyfriends informing on rival suitors; neighbors betraying entire families who chronically left shared bathrooms unclean or who occupied desirable apartments.
And then there were those who informed because for the first time in their lives someone in authority would listen to them and value what they said.
If one were foolish enough to speak out against the Nazi party or tell an anti-Nazi joke, he or she could expect to be arrested, interrogated and executed that very night.
This is what makes programs like this troubling. Today you will have no way of defending yourself against anonymous accusers. And will their testimonies be available for use in the courts? The constitution states that every citizen has right to trial by jury of your peers, not a private tribunal or website tip line for that matter. It’s time that American’s realize that we no longer has a constitution. The National Socialist Party has taken over and we live in Nazi Germany. In the eleventh hour the time for silence is past. Speak out now or forever hold your peace.
If you don’t agree with this lets get it shut down!
