Lawyer: Oil Workers At Risk For Serious Illness, WDSU Channel 6 New Orleans, July 19, 2010 at 17:56 EDT:
Oil and environmental lawyer Stuart Smith has a team of experts, toxicologists, oil engineers and oceanographers taking air and soil samples from areas along the Gulf Coast. …
What they found [sic] high levels of chemicals like benzene and hexane coming from dispersants. Those chemicals may cause health problems like headaches, eye irritation, sore throats, respiratory issues and depression.
“The chemicals in oil are known to cause cancer. Those chemicals have been found where workers are working without respirators,” Smith said. “If they gave respirators, they’d have to admit it’s dangerous wouldn’t they?”
